The Next Step

Back at University for my third year and I'm all ready to go! My journey begins as I set out to become a fashion photographer with my own unique style of photography. I can sit hear and tell you how much I love photography and the rest of the palaver that comes with it; but you should all know how interested I am in photography because if I wasn’t, well, I wouldn’t have a blog in the first place!

I will tell you what type of photography I focus on and why which is Fashion. Firstly the reason being because fashion is a significant interest for me, because I love to shop and keep up with the trends just like any other girl does. I also enjoy creating my own unique styles of fashion and bringing influences from music, art, social cultures from 60s and onwards into the 21st century.

I don’t know if you all would agree with me but I feel that in the today in the 21st century, our generation has no new clear-cut stance in the fashion industry as we have recycled the fashion influences and styles and combined them together one to many times.

In the 21st century you will rarely find a strict sixties chick who conforms to accepted behavior or established practices of the fashion in the sixties. Now you will find an entity that takes elements from the sixties and combines with the rest of the influences they have extracted from other decades of the 20th century.

You would find that the ‘Grunge’ is now commonly adopted by a large amount of the population today. To elaborate on the grunge style I would say it is Kurt Cobain influenced ‘I don’t give a fuck’ kind of attitude, which is expressed mostly through fashion and music. Grunge is a mixture of rock and punk elements but it is recognized as its own genre of fashion. It is influenced by the and the early 80's music industry with Kurt Cobain and Nirvana representing the style as we have taken elements and created a whole new style. The last decade’s fashion trends quickly declined as only a few trends have managed to work through the trends today. I feel that in the years to come there will be no one looking back in the 21st century to take influence from our fashion trends as I believe they will look straight pass the last decade and look back into the 60's and 80's taking influences and styles and making up their own genres of fashion exactly how we are doing today. Why? It’s because I believe we do not have our own innovative trend to influence the future generations.

With the fashion trends continuously and rapidly changing, it has now had a colossal effect of the society today. To my taste the styles are becoming so outrageous even the fashion magazines are oblivious to what they are portraying which affects all readers. Even I have uncontrollably fallen victim to it.

Take Lady Gaga for instance; she is the only person who I can think of to date who has successfully achieved the power of influencing millions to follow elements (yes elements because I’m not seeing everyone walking around with a telephone on their head) of what she deems to be acceptable. I’m sure many of you may agree or disagree with her style but hey someone has to set the trend!
